Medicare in Detroit, MI

Metro Detroit's Medicare landscape is shaped by several major hospital systems. Henry Ford Health, Corewell Health (formerly Beaumont), Trinity Health (Saint Joseph Mercy), and Detroit Medical Center each anchor different parts of the metro.

Michigan's reformed auto no-fault law also changed how PIP medical coverage interacts with Medicare after a car accident, which is worth knowing before, not after.

We're independent and licensed in Michigan. We do reviews by video call across Detroit, the suburbs (Oakland, Macomb, Wayne, Washtenaw counties), Ann Arbor, and beyond. We pull what's available in your specific ZIP and check it against your full provider list.

What's worth knowing about Medicare in Detroit

Multiple major systems with different network footprints. Henry Ford anchors Detroit and parts of the East Side. Corewell (formerly Beaumont) is broad across Oakland and Macomb. Trinity Health (Saint Joseph Mercy) anchors Ann Arbor and Washtenaw. DMC anchors central Detroit. Plans built around one system may be thin on the others. We pull plans by your specific ZIP.

Auto No-Fault and Medicare coordination. Michigan's auto no-fault reform changed how PIP medical coverage interacts with Medicare. If you opted for a lower PIP coverage limit (or chose to coordinate with Medicare), Medicare can become the primary payer for accident-related medical care faster than under the old system. Worth knowing before an accident, not after.

Specialist tier doesn't always match hospital tier. A surgeon, cardiologist, or oncologist who admits at Henry Ford or Corewell may be on a different network tier than the hospital itself. We pull the actual provider directory and check the doctors you see by name.

Meijer and Kroger for Part D pharmacy. Metro Detroit's pharmacy mix includes Meijer, Kroger, CVS, Walgreens, Walmart, and Rite Aid. Each Part D plan picks its own preferred-pharmacy chains. Worth checking against where you actually fill.

Common questions about Medicare in Detroit, MI

Does my Detroit-area Medicare Advantage plan include Henry Ford and Corewell?

It depends on the plan. Both Henry Ford Health and Corewell Health (formerly Beaumont) are major metro Detroit systems with broad but not identical Medicare Advantage participation. Some plans include both at preferred tier; some favor one over the other. We check by plan and by specific facility.

How does Michigan's auto no-fault law affect my Medicare coverage after a car accident?

Under Michigan's reformed no-fault law, you can choose lower PIP medical coverage limits (or coordinate PIP with your health insurance, including Medicare). If you've coordinated with Medicare or chose a lower PIP limit, Medicare can become the primary payer for accident-related care once your PIP limit is exhausted, instead of unlimited PIP covering everything.

The choice you made on your auto policy matters a lot here. We're licensed for Medicare, not auto insurance, but we can flag the basics so you know to check with your auto agent.

Do you do in-person Medicare reviews in Detroit?

Not currently. Our office is in Pennsylvania and we do in-person reviews across southeastern PA. For Detroit and the rest of Michigan, we work with you by video call. Same plan-pull, same provider directory check, same no-pressure conversation.

I'm a UAW retiree. Does my retiree health plan work with Medicare?

Many UAW and other automotive retirees have retiree health coverage that coordinates with Medicare in specific ways. Some retiree plans become a Medicare Advantage option (group MAPD) administered by a specific carrier once you're 65. Whether to enroll, opt out, or supplement is a real decision. We can flag the considerations, though we don't administer the union/employer retiree plans themselves.

Are you connected to Medicare or to the Michigan state government?

No. The Right Choice Agency is an independent licensed insurance agency. We are not connected with or endorsed by the United States government, the federal Medicare program, or the Michigan state government. We help you compare options from the carriers we represent. Same review, no drive required

We pull what's available in your metro Detroit ZIP, check your doctors and prescriptions against each plan's actual provider directory and formulary, factor in the Henry Ford/Corewell/Trinity/DMC network puzzle, and walk through the tradeoffs. If your current plan is the right one, we tell you to stay. That's the whole pitch.
