Common Medicare Questions

Simple answers to questions we hear most often.

What is the difference between Medicare Advantage and Original Medicare?

Original Medicare (Parts A and B) is administered by the federal government. Medicare Advantage (Part C) plans are offered by private insurers approved by Medicare and may have different networks, copays, and rules. Options vary by ZIP code.

When should I sign up for Medicare if I'm turning 65?

Most people have a 7-month Initial Enrollment Period beginning 3 months before their birthday month. Missing this window without qualifying coverage can result in penalties and delayed coverage.

Does Medicare cover dental, vision, and hearing?

Original Medicare typically does not cover routine dental, vision, or hearing. Some Medicare Advantage plans may include these benefits, but coverage and limits vary by plan and service area.

Do I need a Medicare Supplement (Medigap) plan?

Original Medicare has no annual out-of-pocket maximum. A Medigap policy helps cover certain cost-sharing gaps. Whether it makes sense depends on your health needs, budget, and plan availability in your area.

What is the Part D late enrollment penalty?

If you go without creditable prescription drug coverage for 63 or more consecutive days after your Initial Enrollment Period, you may pay a late enrollment penalty added to your Part D premium.
